All great stuff and it works, but you can sure speed up some things you do by using socialoomph.com to auto follow the people that are following you. That sure helps, that is one less step you will have to do.

Hi Joan,

I know just how you feel. Took me a while too. I used to be a truck driver for God’s sake. :0) No tech skills here. I started with any MLM and it taught me how to talk to and deal with people on a daily basis. You have to be you. I’ve been told I need to make my site more professional and techie. That’s not me. It’s people like you that I am attracting. People I can relate to.
I have upgraded my blog many times in the last few years. I have a friend who tweaks it for me once and a while, but mostly do it myself. I really can’t say I would do templates. Too confining. I’d just start simple and go from there as you learn. You need a blog (much easier than a website) as your homebase. Then you can use many ways to send traffic to it. I use social media. (Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Squidoo, Ezine Articles, etc.) Twitter is by far the easiest and fastest for me. If you want faster results, you can use a paid service like Adwords. (A steep learning curve and $$$.)

After you start getting traffic, start putting monetization products on the blog and review products that have worked for you. If they are working for you, it comes across and you can help others make it work for them. :0) My phone is 740-392-8883 if you’d like to chat in person. I am available most of the time and do return messages, so please leave one.

I’ll definitely share what I know with you. I have many affiliate products out there. I have about a half dozen ebooks I’ve written out. I still work my MLM, but totally online. I have 27 blogs and 25 websites working for me. Don’t recommend doing all this at first, but just to tell you where I am. I totally work from home and have for over 7 years now. I’m another newbie and I have to say that I’ve spent days searching the internet and am basically overwhelmed with so many possibilities. However, what I do know is that I really like your site/blog. The feel is very mid western/down home good folks. I love it. I have what I consider a good concept – actually a great concept IMHO. No product but expert (me) information to share ……… but I just don’t know which direction to take. Your information is terrific and has really helped me to understand the value of twitter. I think I have lots of pieces to a puzzle but I haven’t been able to figure out how to put it all together. If I may ask, did you create your own site using a template, a specific, application or did you hire someone to create it for you. I’ve been reviewing “Site View It” . Three weeks ago, I purchased Marketing Quickies 3.
Last week, the setup materials arrived. I quickly decided the method seemed hopelessly complicated. I wrote asking for my money back — as promised by the vendor’s written 30-day money-back guarantee.
Silence. No reply.
I have now written the vendor five times asking for return of my money as promised.
Still silence. Absolutely no response.

Twitter didn’t think what would happen if they would have this new ruling, because the allow 1000 a day. These is what i read a guy will do.

Create 10 new accounts with different ip
Massively add and spam of advertising ads,

he used to control one account and now he has 10.

Common sense would teach u that if u limit what people can add, then obviously spammers would create more account to beat that limit, either way its a bad way to control. Having one spammer is better off than having 10 spammers.

For what i think, twitter is better off with google or by alltop

I personally think the limit should be 1000 follows period. No one can read a feed of more than that, and no one does. Yes, you are going to say, people use software to make lists of different groups. Yes, they read what they want but the rest are just follows who they never see.

Many people follow the people/companies who auto-follow just to get followed themselves. They get a follower who will never read what they tweet, and the guru gets another follower.

Some people look at the number of followers as a heuristic for quality, the real number they should look at is the difference between the number followed and followers. Someone with 10K of each is an auto-follower. Someone with 10K followers more than the number followed, probably is posting stuff of value. (With the exception of any celebs who post silly stuff and people follow anyway.)

I agree that Twitter should have informed their user base, but I can only imagine the outcry that would have prompted if they announced before they took that move.

I imagine the rush to get new followers in before the *pre-announced* reduction would have been enough to fire their servers!

Imagine if 12 million folks all rushed in to grab 1000 new followers in the same 5 minute period? Yikes!

Dear Carol, I just stumbled upon your twitter page first then your blog, and read this post (overwhelmed). I want to thank you for your inspired writing and encouragement. I’m just starting on this ‘blogging thing’ and having lots of technical difficulties getting the blog up and am on the verge of discouragement. I found your post to be very heartfelt, well written, and encouraging. I also had the opportunity to care for an aging parent and never will regret that time my father lived in our home. I miss him alot and treasure that time we had together. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I would like to add my top two reasons to working in this industry, if I may be so bold.

1) I get to work in my pajama’s
2) I get to stay home with my grandkids

The other ten are certainly important, and without which MY top two wouldn’t be possible, but when you boil it down, it’s about calling your own shots.

Period.

I could never go back to *working for the man* now that I’ve had a taste of real freedom.
